Hi, I’m JD Hopper — a private caregiver, tutor, and mentor specializing in intentional, relationship-based care and educational support for children and families. With a background in education, leadership, and child development, I provide more than just supervision — I offer a structured, nurturing environment where children are supported academically, emotionally, and socially.
My journey into childcare has been anything but ordinary. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in Economics, I began my career in financial consulting. But it didn’t take long to realize that my real calling wasn’t in a boardroom — it was in building meaningful relationships with children and helping them flourish in all areas of life. I made the decision to leave the corporate world and pursue this vocation wholeheartedly.
Since then, I’ve worked as a full-time caregiver, mentor, and educator — developing a unique approach to caregiving that blends heart, structure, and enrichment. I focus on four key pillars in my care: cultivating academic curiosity, strengthening social and emotional health, promoting wellness and healthy habits, and nurturing character and leadership. These values are woven naturally into everyday life through conversation, play, reading, shared routines, and creative exploration — not just checklists or worksheets.
Over the years, I’ve cared for children from infancy through adolescence in both long-term and short-term roles, supporting everything from early development and learning milestones to homeschool curriculum, tutoring, and behavior coaching. I’ve worked in academic settings like Heart Math Tutoring, mentored a young boy through Big Brothers Big Sisters, and taught in the children’s and youth ministry at Covenant Presbyterian Church. In college, I served as a chair for Carolina for the Kids, leading major fundraising efforts for pediatric healthcare — an experience that deepened my desire to serve families with compassion and purpose.
Today, I offer a range of personalized services, including:
Full-time contract-based care for one family at a time in live-in or live-out arrangements
Appointment babysitting sessions for families who need occasional, high-quality support
Private academic tutoring and mentorship, grounded in curiosity and confidence-building
In every setting, I view my role not just as a caregiver or tutor, but as a consistent presence and strategic partner in a child’s growth — someone who shows up with purpose, supports their emotional world, sparks curiosity, and helps them become confident in who they are.
If you’re seeking someone who brings professionalism, intention, and heart to your family’s rhythms, I’d love to connect. Whether you’re looking for full-time care, occasional in-home support, or academic mentorship, let’s talk about what your family needs in this season and explore whether I might be the right fit.
